ONC has been pursuing a carefully planned R&D program to commercialisation. This program has now progressed to its final stage, which requires controlled open ocean experimentation. Whilst Ocean Nourishment™ utilises largely existing technology, R&D is required for the nutrient delivery process and to assess the efficiency of carbon uptake. Monitoring and auditing is also required to assess potential impacts on the marine environment.

ONC's co-ordinated R&D program will be reviewed and independently assessed by recognised scientists and research institutions. This will provide third party endorsement of our methods and approach to marine research.

If the R&D program is successful in proving the concept, demonstrating carbon uptake efficiency and increasing wild fish stocks, the world will have at its disposal a technology capable of responding rapidly to the threat of climate change and the global challenge of food security.

ONC is investigating the oceanographic modelling of ocean nourishment utilising ecosystem based modelling tools. A dedicated ecosystem modelling platform for ocean nourishment will provide important predictions of nutrient dispersion and the resulting ecosystem changes. Findings of marine ecosystem modelling will be validated through our open ocean experimentation.
