Research & Development
ONC is pursuing a carefully planned research, development and deployment program to commercialisation. Our program is focused on site selection and process refinement, measurement, engineering and environmental monitoring. Independent science is required to validate the predicted efficiency of carbon sequestration as well as documenting the environmental effects of the process and impacts on marine ecology. This will take the form of sophisticated modeling and open ocean experiments at increasing scale and duration.
ONC welcome opportunities to collaborate on co-ordinated research projects in different regions of the worlds oceans. ONC is joining hands with research teams around the world to target solutions to the most pressing issues of climate change, food security and ocean acidification.
If the above program is successful in demonstrating carbon dioxide uptake efficiency and effective carbon storage, increasing wild fisheries and mitigating ocean acidification the world will have at its disposal
a technology capable of responding rapidly to the threat of climate change and the global challenge of food security.
Current research activities
ONC is undertaking oceanographic modelling of prospective Ocean Nourishment demonstration sites using ecosystem based modelling tools. A dedicated ecosystem modelling platform for Ocean Nourishment provides important predictions of nutrient dispersion and the resulting ecosystem changes. The findings of our marine ecosystem modelling will be validated through third party independent open ocean experimentation.
